Are You Happy?

 

It is a conscious decision to choose if you are going to be happy or not.  Happiness is a choice. 

I used to believe that material possessions and or a relationship would make me happy but the only thing or person that can make me happy is myself and my relationship with God.  I have to choose to be happy.

Happiness comes from within, it can’t be found from outside sources.  We are our own destiny and we make our own happiness.  In this world there is always going to be hardships and unhappy events but we have a choice in how we are going to deal with these issues.  Although we must feel our emotions to be healthy, we can choose what we focus on and make a choice to be happy.  It is like choosing the shoes you wear for the day.

There have been many times in my life where it would have been so easy to give in and wake up in the morning with a poor me mentality but what would that get me?  Pain and suffering throughout the day.   You can make the effort to smile as easily as you can to frown and what a difference a smile will make if you practice it daily.

We all get angry, sad, and unhappy throughout our lives and we should always feel these emotions but it is not beneficial for us to dwell on these feelings or live by them as so many of us do.  I myself have lived this way by focusing on my negative feelings from ill events that have happened in the past.  It is very easy to get caught up in our unhappiness and make this the focus of our world.  Quite frankly I believe our ego feeds on our negative thoughts and it takes a conscious effort to stay in a happy state of consciousness.

It can be very beneficial to choose to be happy once you realize you have been angry or upset.  You can move on and acknowledge your anger but not allow it to stay with you harboring negative feelings.  We are the only ones that can choose our feelings.  We do not want to give others power over us but allowing them to influence our emotions or get under our skin makes us have a bad day.  When we allow others to cause us pain or anger we give them our power!

The next time someone makes you unhappy take action not reaction.  Give yourself a timeout and realize that they are reacting to their own unhappiness and applying it towards you.  Do not react back to them but act in a positive manner that will only benefit you.  If you stay conscious of your own thoughts and feelings and make a conscious effort of how you are going to let other people make you feel, you will start to feel happy and not let others influence you.

Remember you always have a choice to stay happy.  It will be difficult at first to just change your thoughts and feelings from anger, fear, sadness and self doubt to peace, joy and happiness.  But it is only a thought away.  Don’t focus on what happens to you unnecessarily but stay in the present and realize what is causing you to feel this way.  Know that thoughts, emotions and feelings can change.  Feel your present emotion and if it is not happy than choose to be happy.

Many of us go through our day with the fear of the unknown or in sadness, or anger.  Although you may not control all of the events in your life you can control how happy you feel.   It takes a lot of energy to choose to be happy especially in the beginning when you constantly make a conscious decision to be happy.  And it is far easier to wallow in your pity or complain about your circumstances instead of being happy.

As soon as you make the conscious decision to be happy, you have decided to be a beacon of optimism that will affect you positively and everyone else around you will feel your joyful presence.  Happiness has the domino effect.

Start practicing being happy!  Be courteous, compassionate and happy towards others.  Focus on positive and loving behaviors towards others as well as yourself.


Each day rise and give thanks for what you have, even if it is not what you exactly desire.  I don’t care what kind of environment or situation you are in we can always find something to be thankful for.  Spend some quiet time alone and focus on feeling happy.  Put a smile on your face and laugh hard and loud.  Offer everyone around you a smile that is contagious and will brighten their day.  You will be surprised at how you can change someone’s day with a smile.  Be a model of patience and caring towards others.

 

As you continue to practice being happy one day you will wake up and truly feel content.  You will realize that happiness has become a part of you and is a reality!  Find the secret of life that so many seek!
